Cooking Class!

Last week, we signed up for a cooking class! We were expecting a little old Italian woman, but instead got a young Italian man that didn't speak any English! It was a little weird at first, but the meal ended up tasting so good, and we learned a lot!
Mary beating the eggs

Omelet with potatoes and parmesan cheese....YUM.

Pasta with broccoli....double YUM!

Chocolate mousse....a little sweet but still....TRIPLE YUM.

Soon, we'll try to make these things on our own!

Salads Score

I recently discovered the Homestyle salad at L'insalatta Ricca. It has tuna AND eggs. It tastes good and I think it's good for you?

I saw an old man eating pasta a few days ago and told the waiter I want "that" and pointed to it. It was a little spicy, but the clams and mussels were just what I wanted!

Homemade Meal

Marie and Amy hosted dinner last Monday in their apartment! I missed all the cooking, but Mary helped out, and by the time I arrived, dinner was served!
Sauteed asparagus....amazing.

Crostini with tomatoes, mozzarella, and balsamic glaze.

DELICIOUS pesto pasta with tomatoes and mozzarella.

A glass of red wine.

Thanks friends!

The Rest of Barca

These are a little late, but Marie and I found a Subway in Barcelona and decided to try it out. The pepperonis were a little pink, and Marie got a weird sauce, but besides that it was the same old Subway!

On the beach, we went to a paella restaurant and had a delicious seafood and chicken dish!

Tapas in Barcelona

While in Barcelona, we went to a tapas restaurant called Catalana. We each ordered so many different things. We were shocked when the food kept coming and it was delicious!

3-Course Spain

Yesterday morning, we got back from our weekend trip to Barcelona! It was a blast and we had a much different food experience than we've had in Rome. One restaurant that we went to twice had a deal for 3 courses, wine, and bread for 9.40. So, of course we took advantage.
Eggs with bacon and potatoes.

Paella

Chocolate Cake

Sangria

The second time we had a gross experience. Yucky Carbonara.

Repeat Restaurants?

We all wanted Sushi, but were having a hard time finding any that wasn't really expensive, so we walked around and found a Chinese place. It took FOREVER. The food was a little bland, but the Wan Tan soup was good!

We have a restaurant right by school that we go to almost every day. It's known for its salads, but they also have good pasta. This Carbonara was a little weird, but they have amazing arrabiata!

I finally got the salmon salad and LOVED it!

There is an Irish pub we go to allllll the time, but today is the first day I went for lunch. I got the supreme nachos and shared them with Mary. Fantastic!

Eatin' Good in the Neighborhood

Last night, Mimi and I were starving, so we decided to check out this restaurant that is right downstairs from our apartment. Best decision ever! The food was delicious, plus it takes our meal vouchers, AND it's so close. New favorite.
I got the tortellini with cream sauce. I didn't take a picture of Mimi's lasagna, but it was one of the best things I've ever tasted.

Loved the bruschetta!

Today, we went back with all the girls and we all ordered the Vera Margherita. It's no Gusta, but it was still pretty tasty!

Success in Roma

We arrived in Rome one week ago and have had a semi-successful time with food!
Our second night, we went to this very cheap restaurant, and it turned out to be way better than we expected! I got penne with eggplant and I finished every bite.

Now that we're living in apartments, I've cooked for myself a few times. For this, I cooked the tomatoes in olive oil on the stove until they started to burst. I added the bread to the olive oil and toasted each side.  I added some fresh mozzarella and had a perfect little meal.

We've been going to L'insalatta Piccu, which is next to our school almost everyday. On Thursday, we went to the place next door, and I felt like I was cheating on L'insalatta. I got this pasta which I thought I loved for the first few bites, but then it was weird. Fail.

Right below school is this incredible gelato place. I got orange chocolate and it was DIVINE. Best gelato I've had yet in Italy!

Liz found a restaurant called Ai Spaghettari, which is right in our neighborhood. We ordered wine and had one of the best meals so far! I got pasta with clams, mussels, and shrimp. Perfect!

Venice....cosi cosi

We went to Venice a little while ago, and had some good and not so good food experiences...
Our first meal in Venice was a miserable one. We were tired and grumpy and didn't like being split up from each other. We found a little restaurant. I got this weird panini that was good, but kind of weird. We had terrible service too!

Seeing this little guy cheered me up a little though.

Amy, Marie, and Mary on our first day.

This is day 3 in Venice. A MUCH better experience! I ordered the funghi pizza, which turned out to be fantastic!

Marie and I split our pizza and pasta, so we had this spaghetti al pomodoro as well. Simple and light. Perfect.

The only downside of the meal was the 6 euro coca colas!

More on Gusta

Just one more thing....All the tables at Gusta Pizza are filled with order number slips that people have written on. Marie and I added to the piles...

Food in Florence

I'm a little late with starting my food blog, but better late than never. I'm in Rome now, but just finished spending 2 weeks in Florence. It was the most beautiful place I've ever been and I fell in love with it immediately. One of the best parts of Florence was the FOOD. Here it is....
My first day of school, Marie, Petra, Mary, and I went to this cute outdoor restaurant next door and I got this delicious pasta. I couldn't tell you what is in it, but it was delectable.

One of our first meals in Florence was at this little restaurant where they brought us tons and tons of food. It's one of the few times I've eaten meat while here!

Two words: Gusta Pizza. Honestly, this margherita pizza is the most delicious thing I have ever eaten in my entire life. The crust was thin and flaky. The mozzarella was think and creamy. And there was a certain sweetness to the sauce that I wish I could emulate. Favorite food ever.

O'Vesuvio's....AKA Jersey Shore Pizza. Margherita plus artichokes. Very good and lovely, but it doesn't hold a candle to Gusta.

More Gusta. This is the Caprese pizza, and when I had it alone, it was incredible, but when Marie and I shared our pizzas and split them, the margherita was 230992348 times better.

Marie and I walked forever to get to Gusta Pizza for the last time before we left for Rome. We cried a little and sulked, but it was good. One day we'll be back. Big Table, round 2.

My best friend Julie told me everywhere that I needed to eat (she is the one who told me about Gusta. I owe her my life.). MJ and I searched for what seemed like hours until we finally found Noe, a little sandwich shop. We got a turkey and brie panini. YUM.
